Thirteen years of helping clients make data they can actually trust.
I'm Andrei Barannikov. I founded AB Data Solutions after more than 13 years working with client organizations — major energy companies, global finance, and enterprise teams — to turn scattered operational pain into ownership, quality, and a plan people follow. The product is AB Data Management. When software isn't enough, I still do the work with you.
A practitioner who sits with the problem, not a slide deck about it
Most data work starts as a complaint, not a vision: the pipeline broke again, three teams define “revenue” differently, nobody can say who owns a table, and the next audit or board pack is already late. That is where I come in. I help clients take those fragmented inputs — business, finance, analytics, engineering — and turn them into a strategy, an operating model, and a backlog they can actually run.
My foundation is requirements, data modeling, and analytical problem-solving. Over 13 years I moved from delivering insights to owning how data is structured, governed, documented, and trusted. Today I lead the work that sits between executives, data owners, and delivery: what matters now, what can wait, and what has to be built properly so the next decision is not a guess.
The goal is not another framework. It is clarity, ownership, and trust so data starts supporting the business. Andrei Barannikov, founder

13+ years across energy, global finance, and enterprise teams
I have spent my career inside other companies' data problems — many client organizations, many operating models, the same pattern: scattered pain, no shared language, and a need for a plan that survives contact with real delivery.
Nearly six years at OT-OIL leading delivery for energy clients. Since 2018, data strategy, governance, and finance data transformation for client organizations through DataArt — including a global company that had no data strategy, only separated operational problem statements across teams and systems. That work became a strategy with quick wins, a long-term roadmap, and 20+ executive decision products on top of a broader finance data direction (including NetSuite as a financial source).
From the complaint to a plan the client can own
I do not start with a catalog of tools. I start with the decision, the risk, or the broken process — then map it to ownership, quality, governance, and delivery.
Hear the real problem
Workshops and requirements with executives, business owners, and engineering. Collect the scattered pain — then make it one problem, not twelve tickets.
Turn it into a strategy
DAMA-aligned capability mapping, ownership and stewardship, quality and lineage, a near-term quick-wins list, and a longer roadmap tied to business impact.
Leave you able to run it
Stay close to delivery and adoption so the strategy shows up in daily work. Software when it fits — AB Data Management — and hands-on advisory when it does not.
One company, two ways to get to trusted data
AB Data Solutions is the company. AB Data Management is the product. You can start with the software, with me on the strategy, or both.
AB Data Management
The self-serve governance platform: catalog & ownership, sensitive-data risk, and pipeline trust — in plain language, live in an afternoon.
- Connect Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, Airflow
- Auto-catalog, classify, and rank real risk
- A "My Data" view any owner can act on
Data strategy & governance advisory
Hands-on help when you need more than software: strategy, governance transformation, and AI-ready data foundations — I lead this work myself.
- Data strategy & capability assessment
- Ownership, stewardship & operating models
- AI-ready, DAMA-aligned data foundations
Four things we won't compromise on
- Governance should be usable by the person who's accountable, not just the person who configured it.
- Plain language is not a "nice to have" feature — it's the difference between a tool that gets used and one that gets ignored.
- You shouldn't need an enterprise budget to know whether your data is safe.
- Trust is earned by being honest about what we don't know, not by hiding gaps behind a false "all clear."
20 to 500 people, real risk, no governance team
The same pattern I kept seeing on client work: small and mid-sized companies — typically 20 to 500 people — running a modern data stack (Snowflake or Databricks, usually with dbt and an orchestrator) who have real data risk and real compliance exposure, but no dedicated governance team and no enterprise budget.
If you're accountable for data you can't fully see, that's exactly who I built this for.
If that's you, let's talk.
Start with the product, the strategy, or both — whatever fits where you are today.
